A hip-hop fan with formal music training in Guitar and Cello, dub-L started playing around with beats in '94 using old 4-Trax and Casio keyboards. Within five years he landed a deal on Profile / Sm;)e Records in 1999 with his group The Controls, and their debut album "One Hundred". However, shortly before this, RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan signed them on for publishing and dub-L to a separate production deal.
During this time, dub-L began working with Aesop Rock, who had already been introduced to the world via The Controls album on the tracks "Shere Khan" and "Home Again". He produced Aesop's debut "Music for Earthworms", which is now considered a hip-hop classic. Through the guest appearance on "Earthworms" of the lethal lyricist himself, Percee-P, Dub was introduced to DJ JS-1 who quickly signed on as The Controls turntablist.
A great working partnership between Dub-L and DJ JS-1 created the highly regarded Ground Original project. Their two releases ("Ground Original" 2003 & "Claimstake" 2004) had collaborations with MCs that most can only dream of working with. The roster included tracks with Common, KRS-One, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, O.C., Big Daddy Kane, J-Live, Evidence, Ill Bill, Planet Asia, Jemini The Gifted One, Tragedy Khadafi, Special Ed and many more.
Dub-L's frenzied work schedule has kept him living in the studio non-stop. The production of Chase Phoenix's "Cut To The Chase"(Battle Axe), multiple tracks on both of C-Rayz Walz albums "The Limelight" and "Black Samuri"(Definitive Jux), the Rahzel single "Guess", and several tracks on MF DOOM's "Viktor Vaughn VV2" has made this beat obsessed assailant in high demand!
